World Sickle Cell Day
On June 27, 2024, the Department of Physiotherapy at PDUNIPPD(D) organized a “Public Awareness Program” in commemoration of “World Sickle Cell Day.” The event featured Dr. Mrinalini Kotru, Director and Professor of the Department of Pathology, and Smt. Rajni Kalra, Assistant Professor of the Department of Physiotherapy, as key speakers. World Sickle Cell Day, aims to raise awareness about sickle cell disease (SCD), a genetic blood disorder that affects millions of people worldwide. Characterized by abnormally shaped red blood cells, SCD can lead to severe pain, infections, and complications such as stroke and organ damage. It also encourages early diagnosis and treatment, supports research efforts, and fosters global partnerships to address healthcare disparities and support affected individuals and families. The total number of 100 participants including professionals, students and faculties actively interacted.
